I have been writing about the ecotourism activities in Manokwari again since the beginning of this year. And some readers of this blog have shown their interest to come to this beautiful town. The first thing that you need to find when you have landed on the Rendani Airport is to find a hostel or hotel which you can stay while traveling around the town and its surrounding environment. There are several hotels in Manokwari ranging from 1 star to 4 stars which is far more expensive than hostels. You can find more information by typing such keywords as hotels in Manokwari in Google or Yahoo search engine.
Most foreign tourists who come or visit Manokwari are nature lovers. They prefer to stay in hostels which are located closer to nature. Besides they are cheaper, they are located in quiet places such as the Missi and Kampung Ambon Atas areas. There are two hotels that I know.
It is a hostel that is located on Jalan Brawijaya (the road to Klim en Daal school). The Losmen KAGUM is behind Xavier Bookstore, next to SD Padma 1 (formerly St. Vincentius). It is operated by Miss Ivana Roring (manager). Its rate is between Rp. 150,000 and Rp. 180,000/ per room per night (around 15 to 18 US dollars) depending on the room that you choose.
If you stay for more than three days in the Losmen Kagum then the owner of the hostel can provide free pick up service from and to the airport. To book a room in Losmen Kagum, I suggest that you contact Ms. Ivanna Roring at the following address Her cell phone number is +62 81 283 07 331. You can also contact her through our home based telephone +62 986 211618. E-mail: peace4wp@gmail.com. Also read: Cheap Hotel in Manokwari
When you stay in the hostel, in the morning you will get free breakfast. You can ask the owner if you want to customize the food that you like to eat such as changing nasi goreng or bread with cereal and milk.
You can also use internet for free if you want to send email to your friends and relatives back home.
The management of the Kagum hostel can provide assistance in organizing your tour to interesting places such as traveling inside the tropical rainforest of Table Mountain, Exporing the Natural Caves inside the tropical rainforest for bat and lizard watching, swimming at the beautiful beaches such as the white sandy beaches of Pasir Putih, Yonsoribo and Masni.
You can also be escorted to Mansinam, Lemon and Raimuti islands where you can enjoy swimming, snorkeling, and even scuba diving (bring your own diving gear) with fewer people around. The hotel has Charles Roring and Paul Warere as your guide and translator which can show you around the interesting tourist attractions the Manokwari regency has. Manokwari is a beautiful town. It is surrounded by Arfak Mountain, Table Mountain and Three Small Islands that protect the Dorey bay from big waves from the eastern sea of the Geelvink or Cendrawasih bay. Charles Roring can be contacted through his email: lroring@yahoo.com
Another hostel that I recommend to tourists is YAT Losmen. It is located in Kampung Ambon Atas. I haven't been there but I know that it is run by a foundation that also have programs on the empowernment of the indigenous Papuan. Please, type YAT Losmen Manokwari in Google, Bing or Yahoo to find more information about it.
